L'extraordinaire faune d'Atys

Des paisibles herbivores aux plus féroces des carnivores, votre chemin vous mènera au contact de toutes sortes d’espèces d’Atys. Cependant, il vous faudra tôt ou tard faire face à votre plus dangereux ennemi : les Kitins. Organisés, puissants et sans aucune pitié, ils ravagèrent Atys en 2481, massacrant Fyros, Matis, Trykers et Zorais sans discrimination, et effaçant leurs civilisations toutes entières. Les homins ont depuis développés de nouvelles techniques de combat qui leurs permettent de tenir leurs ennemis à distance, mais le combat est loin d’être terminé. N’ayez aucune pitié pour les Kitins si vous voulez survivre.

Pachyderme herbivore et placide, le mektoub est facilement reconnaissable à sa longue trompe puissante qu'il utilise pour récolter de la nourriture, porter l'eau à sa bouche, sentir et soulever des objets. Comme le gnoof, ses pieds agiles sont munis de gros doigts enflés lui permettant de dégager de la chaleur.

Les Homins ont appris à capturer, domestiquer et entraîner les Mektoubs [1] à supporter leur poids et répondre à leur appel. Les Fyros montent ces créatures loyales et sans peur durant les batailles… mais la plupart des homins utilisent cette bête de somme pour les transporter, eux et leur biens, sur l'immense étendue de l'Écorce.

Observations

  • Le mektoub fait régulièrement et consciencieusement sa toilette, il prend tout particulièrement soin de sa trompe, qui est essentielle à sa survie.
  • Le mektoub peut se dresser sur ses pattes arrières, cela lui sert probablement à voir les prédateurs de plus loin. Ce réflexe instinctif doit être inhibé lors du dressage.
  • Le mektoub présente une forte tendance à suivre les homins sur de courtes distances.
    Ce trait de caractère est utile pour en faire un animal de bât. En effet, une fois équipé de visières qui ne le laissent voir que droit devant, rien ne peut plus le distraire et ainsi il peut suivre son maître sur de longues distances.
  • À l'état sauvage, le mektoub est le seul herbivore à ne jamais être chassé par les prédateurs d'Atys[2].

Mythologie Fyros

La faune est le fruit de la sève du Grand Arbre, mélangé avec celle des vils tisons. Leur agressivité dépend de la proportion de Sève. Trop de celle des tisons rend la créature violente et assoiffée de sang.

Mythe Matis

Les créatures ont été engendrées par les Matis dans le but de surveiller l'oeuvre du Grand Mentor. Les herbivores mangent les herbes sauvages, et les prédateurs prennent comme proie ceux qui ne mangent pas les bonnes plantes.

Mythe Tryker

Les Kamis ont attiré l'énergie de la Graine pour créer leur cour de récréation. Ils ont employé cette même énergie pour insuffler la vie aux créatures d'Atys. Les créatures sont leurs domestiques ou leurs jouets. Mais les Kamis ne sont pas toujours bien éveillés et inventent parfois d'étranges créatures qui reflètent leur nature.
